The start of 2022 sees a few changes to the board at WINGS, as we bid farewell to Naila Farouky and welcome Andrew Chunilall as the new chairperson.
Naila, the CEO of the Arab Foundations Forum, has chaired the WINGS board since 2019 and has been an enthusiastic and supportive chair during a time of great growth and expansion for WINGS.
“It’s been my pleasure and honour to witness the exponential growth of the organisation in terms of expanding its global footprint, its thought leadership, funding goals, and the overall achievements by the WINGS team”, says Naila about her 3 years as chairperson.
“In this time, we have successfully launched a rebranded vision for WINGS, while continuing our commitment to our growing network to deliver key resources on philanthropy and the civil society sector worldwide. We have also weathered a global pandemic of historic proportions and I am proud to have had a small part in contributing to the leadership of an organisation that supported its network at this difficult time”, she says.
Naila, who will continue to serve on the board in her new capacity as the treasurer for the next three years, hands over the reins to Andrew Chunilall, our current treasurer and the CEO of Community Foundations of Canada. Andrew serves as a finance and regulatory expert for Canada’s philanthropic milieu. He works closely with the CFC leadership team, board and foundations in Canada and abroad to help the philanthropic sector transform, innovate and meet the new challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
Speaking about his appointment, Andrew says that while it’s a truly challenging moment for the sector he’s proud to serve the WINGS network. “Philanthropy is being called on to reimagine and reshape itself as a force that works in partnership, shifts power and capital, and addresses complex global issues. I’m proud to serve in support of a global network that is creating those connections, showcasing new models and ways of working, and creating the conditions for philanthropy to meet the moment”.
We also warmly welcome Clare Woodcraft, the Executive Director of the Centre for Strategic Philanthropy at the Cambridge Judge Business School, as a new board member. She will serve on the WINGS board for the term January 2022 – December 2024.
The other change to the board is that David Lindberg has stepped down. David, former Chief Financial Officer at the Council of Michigan Foundations, joined the WINGS board in 2016, and served as the treasurer and chair of the finance committee from 2016 to 2018. He continued to be an integral and highly valued member of the finance committee from 2019 till 2021.
The WINGS team is deeply grateful to Naila and David for their leadership and contribution – and excited about having Andrew and Clare on board for what promises to be an interesting few years as we continue to strive to elevate philanthropy to meet the challenges of our age.
