1.3 billion Africans are now in the 3 rd wave of COVID 19 and this is said to be more aggressive. According to WHO (3 rd July 2021 Report), cases are doubling every 3 weeks. There have been over 4 million confirmed cases, including about 97 thousand reported deaths. A total of 49.8 million vaccines doses have been administered in the continent, but 1.6 billion vaccines are needed to vaccinate the minimum target of 60% Africans. Ensuring equitable vaccine access globally is a challenge – Africa has received less that 2% of global vaccines procured
and distributed. We have seen increased vaccine hesitancy due to inadequate information issues and inadequate capacity to monitor vaccine safety. Coronavirus is evenly distributed but the ability to respond is not. We also know that no one is safe until we are all safe. Join us on 28 July 2021, 12:00 – 13:00 EAT as we delve into the discussion of Philanthropy response to COVID-19 in Africa.
