Exploring the potential of philanthropy to drive collaboration for development

The value that philanthropy can bring through partnership is significant – foundations can speculate where public and private sectors may not be able to, they can be flexible, they have access to high-level forums, they can be honest brokers beyond profit and political interest, and they have experience of development issues.

However, partnership is difficult. It needs investment of time and resources, and an adjustment of mindset and expectations. In this event we’ll  be examing the initial findings of The Partnering Initiative’s (TPI) Partnering for Philanthropic Impact Programme, in collaboration with partners Z Zurich Foundation and Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Foundation.

During this event, the panellists will be answering the following questions:

  •  How can foundations decide what type of partnership approach is likely to add value beyond the transaction costs?

  • What do foundations need to know or to resolve before entering into or catalysing new partnerships?

  • What transformations in organisational strategy, process, mindset, culture and relationships are needed to adopt a partnership approach?

  • What different models of partnership exist and how should foundations choose the one most suitable for what they want to achieve?
