The Geneva Centre for Philanthropy is delighted to invite you to an online Philanthropy Lunch: How to combine Purpose and Profit

Thursday 20 May 2021
12:15 – 1:45 pm (CET) | Zoom webinar

“What is a responsible business? The common wisdom is that its one that sacrifices profit for social outcomes. But while it’s crucial for companies to serve society, they also have a duty to generate profit for investors – savers, retirees, and pension funds.” In his book “Grow the Pie”, Prof. Alex Edmans shows that companies can create both profit and social value. When they do so, companies implicitly garner a new philanthropic dimension, as their voluntary actions serve the public good.

During this Philanthropy Lunch, Prof. Edmans will draw on cutting-edge academic research and recent examples to illustrate how companies can deliver both purpose and profit and to highlight the changing and growing role played by corporations in the philanthropic sector, which is one of the core research topics of the Geneva Centre for Philanthropy. The panellists will then discuss key aspects associated with the development of purposeful businesses.
