China has a tradition of generosity dating back more than 3000 years, but which slowed after 1949, when the socialist state had to provide for social needs and private initiatives were discouraged. In recent years, however, the Peoples Republic of China has promoted an environment for Chinese philanthropy to thrive.
At the same time, the world is experiencing a reimagining and shifting of power – from what it is, to who holds it, where it is located and how it can be used.
