Last year, Dalberg was honored to co-host a series of conversations alongside Common Future about how funders can start taking action to support both racial and economic justice in the U.S. (see recordings here & here) We were struck by the extraordinary number of people who engaged in the conversation – asking critical questions about what they need to give up and what they need to do more of to truly #shiftthepower in their work.
The past year has also brought many things into perspective for international donors who fund programs in Africa. The ongoing pandemic along with important reckonings about racial and global inequity have spurred questions about neo-colonial structures and practices in global development, aid, and philanthropy.
On July 12th, Dalberg and Firelight will host a critical conversation about what international donors need to do to better achieve justice and equity for more effective and sustainable solutions through their grantmaking in Africa.
The conversation will also include the launch of a detailed report by Firelight entitled Community-Driven Systems Change: The power of grassroots led change for long-term impact and how funders can nurture it. This groundbreaking report also highlights a range of practical tools for international foundations, donors, and philanthropists – big or small – to #shiftthepower in their grantmaking for greater, lasting change.
Join us for a conversation with donors, thought leaders, and community leaders about how international donors can understand and act on the inequities in global development and global philanthropy, especially when it comes to Africa.
